The box office continues its phenomenal surge, delivering yet another very strong weekend with over $200M in revenue and inching closer to the $5 Billion mark! As of today, the total box office stands at an impressive $4.6 Billion, marking a healthy +15% increase from last year at this time. The third quarter, still in its early weeks, is already up a fantastic +12% compared to the same period last year.

It’s no surprise that Superman flew to the top, commanding nearly 9 million admissions, which accounts for a dominant 61% of total admissions and 62% of total box office revenue! This powerful opening reflects a brilliant marketing campaign and incredible audience excitement for the reboot, especially in premium formats.

Jurassic World Rebirth continues to perform exceptionally well, bringing in over $40M and more than 3 million admissions in its second week. This strong hold indicates sustained audience interest and global appeal, with the movie currently soaring past $500M worldwide!

Notably, even without a new family-targeted release in four weeks, the three kid-friendly titles currently in the top 10 are still generating 7% of total admissions and $15M in revenue. This consistent performance underscores the vital importance of family content to the overall health of the box office.

That category gets a fresh and exciting addition this weekend with Smurfs, expected to open between $15M and $20M. Its performance will be a testament to family turnout and brand familiarity, and with Rihanna lending her voice, it's sure to attract attention!

Also new this weekend is I Know What You Did Last Summer, featuring a new cast and the highly anticipated return of Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt. The film has capitalized on strong press coverage and a wave of nostalgia, tracking around $20M, and is poised for a successful debut.

Combined with the continued strong interest in Superman, these new releases are set to contribute to another powerful weekend, ensuring continued momentum and growth for the box office compared to last year!

Looking Ahead: Fantastic Four Poised for Massive Debut!

The weekend of July 25 brings Fantastic Four: First Steps, which is tracking exceptionally well with early forecasts around $125M, and some internal projections reaching an astonishing $155M! Early ticket sales are already outpacing those of Superman, and online interest, including high trailer view counts, suggests phenomenal awareness and excitement leading into its release. The future of the box office looks incredibly bright!
