The Fantastic Four Takes First Place in a Monumental Weekend | Weekend of July 25th, 2025

The box office has officially crossed the $5 Billion mark year-to-date and is now up a fantastic +10% from a year ago! The third quarter is off to an excellent start, already at over $1B and within 10% of the pre-pandemic three-year average. This is a tremendous sign of a thriving theatrical market.
It was a clear win for Marvel this past weekend, with The Fantastic Four: First Steps debuting at #1 and capturing an impressive 64% of both total admissions and revenue. This dominant performance underscores the continued audience interest in well-established franchises and the enduring strength of the Marvel brand.
Superman, now in its third week, moved to the #2 spot but remained a massive draw, selling over 1.5 million tickets and generating nearly $25 million. The top three titles—The Fantastic Four, Superman, and Jurassic World Rebirth—collectively accounted for a whopping 84% of all admissions and 85% of box office revenue. This highlights a highly concentrated marketplace where blockbuster releases are driving the bulk of attendance.
An interesting note this weekend: two new limited releases made their mark on the charts. Oh Hi, playing in only 866 theaters, ranked #9 in revenue despite placing #14 in admissions. Similarly, The Home, in just over 1,000 theaters, came in at #10 for dollars and #11 for admissions. These results suggest that higher average ticket prices and potential theater buyouts contributed to their solid box office performance, even with a more limited audience reach.
Looking Ahead: The Bad Guys 2 and The Naked Gun Hit Theaters!
The upcoming weekend is set to be another strong one (we don't get tired of saying that!) with two new wide releases. The Bad Guys 2 enters the market with a great brand reputation and is poised to exceed its predecessor's $23M opening from 2022. It will also serve the family audience, which has been a bit underserved in recent weeks.
Also launching is The Naked Gun, which is trending with a fantastic 93% Rotten Tomatoes score. With a strong cast including Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson, and significant press attention, it's projected to open around $20M.
With two exciting new entries and continued strong performances from The Fantastic Four and Superman, the market is well-positioned for another robust weekend, further solidifying a fantastic third quarter for theatrical exhibition!
