Lilo & Stitch Maintains Lead as Summer Heats Up! | Weekend of June 6th, 2025

The box office continues its impressive momentum, with another solid weekend in the books! Q2 has now surpassed the $2 Billion mark, showing a fantastic +75% increase from this time last year. Year-to-date, the box office stands strong at $3.5 Billion, a healthy +25% improvement over the same period last year. This remarkable turnaround truly highlights the industry's vibrant recovery, with the gap from the pre-pandemic average (2017-2019) now less than -9% for Q2, and May itself just -7% from its pre-pandemic average!
Lilo & Stitch continues its dominant run, holding onto the #1 spot for admissions in its third week. The family-friendly favorite captured an impressive 32% of all admissions and 29% of total box office revenue, once again showcasing the powerful draw of content for all ages.
This weekend welcomed From the World of John Wick: Ballerina to the big screen, securing a strong second place. While it debuted slightly below its $30M projection, it still sold nearly 2 million tickets, indicating strong audience interest. Critical and audience reactions are largely positive, suggesting potential for continued performance.
Also new to many this weekend was The Phoenician Scheme, expanding its release after a limited run. This Wes Anderson film opened well, consistent with his previous titles, and boasts excellent reviews. Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye, another newcomer in over 1,000 theaters, also had a respectable opening, pulling in over $3M.
Meanwhile, Sinners continues its exceptional journey, now in its eighth week in the top ten! Despite dropping to ninth place, its remarkable staying power at the box office is a testament to its compelling story and enduring appeal.
Looking Ahead: Dragons Fly and Rom-Coms Delight!
This coming weekend is set to be another exciting one with the highly anticipated live-action How to Train Your Dragon premiering! Predictions place its opening at $65M+, which would be a higher debut than any of the original animated trilogy films. This film has incredible potential, and we're eager to see it take flight!
Also opening this weekend is Materialists, an R-rated comedy romance with a star-studded cast including Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal. Written and directed by Celine Song, this film is already garnering positive reviews (86% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes), building on the success of her Oscar-nominated Past Lives.
With such a diverse and compelling lineup, we anticipate another strong and engaging weekend at the box office!
