Halloween Called, Black Phone 2 Answered | Weekend of October 31, 2025

Quiet weekend creates opportunity for late-season and re-release boosts
We entered November with no major premieres, giving familiar titles room to move back up the rankings this weekend. Black Phone 2 continued to hold the top spot, claiming 16%of total admissions, thanks in part to audiences in the mood for something spooky on Halloween weekend.
Speaking of Halloween, KPop Demon Hunters got a late-season boost. The second weekend-long, limited theatrical release of the sing-along version showed that an interactive element can get families out to theaters, no matter how many times they’ve already watched a movie on Netflix. It jumped up to number two in admissions (14%)—no doubt further helped by fans already out and about in costume.
Where we’re going, we don’t need roads...
A blast from the past also made a splash. Back to the Future, re-released for its 40th anniversary, landing in fourth place with over 10% of all tickets sold and close to $5M at the box office. Not bad for a movie from 1985, and proof that nostalgia still sells when the timing is right. The re-release also comes on the heels of Michael J. Fox’s memoir, Future Boy.
Bugonia, the new Yorgos Lanthimos film starring Emma Stone, expanded its 17-theater release to over 2,000 this weekend, bumping it into the rankings. Ticket sales landed just over 5% of total admissions while the movie received positive reviews.
On the horizon: horror, drama, and history
Looking ahead, Predator: Badlands, starring Elle Fanning, opens this weekend and is getting solid reviews, with projections north of $25M. Also debuting is Die My Love with Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson. Reviews are mixed, but Lawrence is already garnering some early Oscar buzz. The film should open around $7M.
And then there’s Nuremburg, with Rami Malek, Russell Crowe, John Slattery, and Colin Hanks—strong reviews so far, and both Crowe and Malek are being mentioned as potential awards contenders.
The 2025 year-to-date total sits at nearly $7 billion, which represents an increase of +3% from last year. All signs point to a strong finish in 2025!
