Godzilla & Kong Roar to the Top of the Box Office | Weekend of March 29th, 2024

The weekend of March 29th was a monstrous success. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire absolutely smashed predictions as it earned $80M ($20M more than expected) and claimed 52% of all ticket sales. This is pretty impressive as the critics were quite mixed on the movie, but, as seems to be a trend, audiences often do not agree with the critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film received a 54% from critics but an impressive 92% audience score. This illustrates the fact critics and audiences can have different tastes.

From an admissions perspective, this was the second highest weekend of the year behind the Kung Fu Panda 4 premiere a few weeks back. However, in terms of dollars made, this weekend was the highest yet (in part due to it being Easter weekend).
